Conclusion
Upon researching Teen Dating Violence, I learned that it is
more prevalent than I initially thought. There are many warning signs that
people may ignore because they don't think they are a big deal at the time but
they can develop into abuse. Such signs might include: checking your cell phone
or email without permission, constantly putting you down, extreme jealousy or
insecurity, explosive temper, isolating you from friends/family, making false accusations,
mood swings, physical harm, possessiveness, or telling you what to do
(loveisrespect.org). Most people don't
know when things are bad until they are extremely bad. Loveisrepect.org also
helps you to realize when things are bad and gives tips on whether you should
break up and how to do so in a positive and healthy way. With one in three
teens and 20-somethings experiencing dating abuse, chances are you know someone
in an unhealthy relationship. You can help those you know by showing support
and helping them through it. There are many things that you can do and
Loveisrespect.org helps point them out. The next step in this research and
other research can be to look into what exactly leads to teen dating violence.
Is it something that they experienced in their early childhood? Is it a learned
behavior? Etc. By looking into these and looking for early warning signs of
abuse and providing education on the matter, we can be that much closer to
preventing and stopping abuse.

Below are links to two great websites that explain what Teen Dating Violence is and how to prevent it.
The first link is to a website that describes what a healthy relationship is and also what abuse is and gives information on safety and support programs.
http://www.loveisrespect.org/
The second link is to the Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence. This site is mainly for public awareness and lists what help is available to those effected by Domestic Violence. I really like how this site explains the kind of violence that specific populations like teens, immigrant women, LGBTQ, and people with disabilities experience. This site also helps to understand domestic abusers.

"Hope is the strongest driving force for a people. Hope which brings about change, which produces new realities, is what opens man's road to freedom. Once hope has taken hold, courage must unite with wisdom. That is the only was of avoiding violence, the only way of maintaining the calm one needs to respond to offenses." - Oscar Arias Sanchez
This is a great Dating Awareness video showing how serious dating violence is. It just really puts into perspective how prevalent this kind of abuse is. It is also important to understand that anyone, anywhere can be a victim. I also like how this video really speaks out to people and tells them that they deserve to be treated with respect. It also gives tips on how to better manage conflicts in relationships. I thought this video was very well put together, I hope that you agree and learn something new or become more aware of this terrible crime.

You may be asking yourself, "What is teen dating violence?". Here is a great article that I found in the University of Idaho's library. This article talks about what teen dating violence is and how to recognize it. I really like how the article not only explains situations in which someone is being abused but the article also lists predictors that someone you know might be experiencing dating violence. The article provides number s and websites that you can go to to help someone experiencing dating violence or to report any cases that you know of.

Hello. My name is Angelia Crum and I am taking a sociology course on Family, Violence, and Society.
Since April is Domestic Violence Awareness month, our assignment is to blog about Domestic Violence (DV). I will be doing research on Teen Dating Violence because I feel that teen dating violence doesn't get talked about as much and some people might not realize that it is happening. The goal of my blog is to get this information out and in the open because it is happening and education on the subject could help reduce teen dating violence.
